“I have found a new confidence in my life. I now look forward to a betterment in all aspects, instead of a fear of what the future may hold after the operation and subsequent chemotherapy that I am undertaking. Life is for living!!”
Charles, 81, Colorectal Cancer Prehabilitation

Here are Charles’ thoughts on KiActiv® Health

“I was invited to join a KiActiv® programme on Dec 16 2020, following the discovery of cancer in my bowel. The operation was set for the 21st Dec 2020 and was completely successful. I was discharged from the RUH on 25 Dec 2020. The point of the KiActiv® programme was to monitor changes in my physical and mental state after the operation and to try and rebuild those states to that prior to the operation.

The programme measured my health daily and was demonstrated via my iPad, showing any improvement or failing in my health. Throughout I was monitored and mentored by Kirstie to discuss and suggest via telephone the various ways I could increase performance and therefore my improving health. I completed the programme in March 2021. Kirstie’s guidance throughout the programme benefitted me enormously, by making me rethink my attitude towards my future, gently encouraging me to slowly but steadily increase my ambition as well as my confidence that following the programme was showing a distinct improvement in all aspects of my life since commencing the programme.

I have found a new confidence in my life. I now look forward to a betterment in all aspects, instead of a fear of what the future may hold after the operation and subsequent chemotherapy that I am undertaking. Life is for living!! I have been asked if I would recommend KiActiv® to anyone. I most certainly would (and have), to friends and family and to anyone else I think would benefit from such a rewarding experience. “

Charles’ Story

In his first few sessions, Charles acknowledged that he faced many barriers to becoming more active, and was limited in his physical activity choices due to lockdown restrictions, pain from his cancer, as well as his upcoming surgery. However, by the end of his time with KiActiv®, he overcame these barriers, managing to increase his physical activity.

Midway through the programme he got his COVID-19 vaccine and felt both stronger and fitter going into his surgery. However, he wasn’t feeling in the best of spirits” due to medical decisions with his chemotherapy alongside the impact that lockdown had on his mental health. He showed concern about the impact of chemotherapy on his body and his activity, he talked through these concerns with his Mentor and was able to overcome the barriers and concerns which could have prevented him from increasing his activity post-surgery.

Charles engaged frequently with the platform, interacting more than once every other day. Looking at the KiActiv® online platform, he told his Mentor that that he felt a general “boost” from seeing an increase in his physical activity. Charles managed to increase his everyday physical activity by incorporating more activities in and around the house, as well as going for regular long walks.

By his final session, Charles showed a increase in fitness and a new perspective on physical activity, mentioning to his Mentor that he now walks faster and for much longer on his daily walks, and he looks forward to the prospect of them.
