“I was a bit sceptical to start with, but it really has exceeded my expectations. I still feel fatigued, but I feel better at managing it…I feel proud of myself.”
Kate, 24, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Kate’s thoughts on KiActiv® Health

“It definitely has (exceeded expectations). I was a bit sceptical to start with, but it really has, probably more so than my appointments with the hospital. It did meet my expectations and then some”

“I still feel fatigued, but I feel better at managing it…I feel proud of myself.”

Kate’s story

Kate was referred to KiActiv® to help her manage her Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). She is a full-time carer and was completing a Master’s degree at the time of the programme she found she spent a lot of time on her feet and became very fatigued.

In her early sessions Kate noticed that she used a lot of energy at work, and it also surprised her the amount of energy she uses just getting ready for bed in the evening. She realised that she was “definitely not giving [herself] enough rest time” and was aiming to dedicate more time to rest.

She was feeling overworked at her job and was finding it hard to ask for breaks. Being able to see the data made it easier for her to tell her manager about the energy demands. The hospital sent a letter to her work, supported by the KiActiv® data, to allow her to have breaks, which took a large weight off her shoulders. Her work reduced her hours in response to the letter and she was able to do more of what she wanted.

She expressed that she would like to go back to the gym and planned to use the strategy she uses at work with rest periods to be able to do her workouts. She thinks the biggest thing for her is an increase in awareness of her condition.

Further into the programme she felt like her brain was very active, she was doing college work as well as working. She was conscious of the amount of movement she did in the day, incorporating appropriate periods of rest. Kate liked feeling like she had more energy and wanted to have that feeling more often.  She told her Mentor that she has learnt that she needs to be mindful so she can manage her fatigue better.

During the latter part of the programme Kate was able to increase her hours again at work and changed her nutrition to help with her energy. She’s happy to see that her energy expenditure is more staggered, the regular breaks were helping a lot. She was feeling a lot more positive about life now and thought that she now had quite a manageable lifestyle having found her optimum activity levels.
